KISS Perform "Live" Rendition Of "Detroit Rock City" For Upcoming "American Bandstand" Special

As expected, KISS guitarist Ace Frehley did not participate in the taping of the group's performance for next month's broadcast of American Bandstand 50th, which took place yesterday, April 19th in front of an audience of approximately 300-400. According to reports, the current line-up of KISS—Paul Stanley (guitar/vocals),Gene Simmons (bass/vocals),Eric Singer (drums) and Tommy Thayer (guitar)—played "Detroit Rock City" to a backing track that included everything but Stanley's lead vocals.

“It's been 30 years of this, the ups and downs,” Simmons said of Frehley's non-appearance. "Ace is a rollercoaster. You know, it goes up, it goes down... but it sure is a ride, I'll tell you that.

“There's always somebody. We always have a spare tire. This is not the first time, nor the last time.”

The show, which will alternate between performances and clips from past shows, will air on May 3rd on ABC.
